UFC Fighters Get Paid BIG To Tweet
If you ever wandered why the UFC and MMA is the fastest growing sport in the world well that’s because it is run by a fan himself Dana White. Where most sports are are trying to fight it the UFC have embraced social media and it’s worked a treat.

The fighters are human and have good times, bad times, happy days and at times they just need to rant. Now it is exactly for these reasons that fans connect with their heroes and interact on a social level.
As in any sport the athletes are real people with real lives and I think social media could be utilized by sportsmen to stop rumours spreading by coming out and just being honest with fans via Twitter or Facebook. It would help the fans understand some of the hard times top sportsmen endure.
That’s why I think it makes a refreshing change that the UFC fighters actually get paid BIG bonuses based on their followers and tweets. All sports should follow and embrace social media not fight it… What do you think should all sports go more social or not? Please post your comments below

Understanding the “ME” in Social Media
Life as we know it is becoming more and more social but not face to face, most of our social activivties are happening online through various forms of social networking. Now the problem for most business owners is how to position themselves, products or services in front of potential consumers without going against SOCIAL etiquette. You see for your business to be social it needs some personality to allow people to connect and then once connected you can start working on building a relationship.
Remember when you are entering the social space your business needs to have a clear purpose, message, direction and you need to be consistent. Remember with social media there is no 9-5 you need to be active 24 hours a day ready to respond to any questions, queries or problems as they arise.
Here is a quote from Brian Solis who is one of the thought leaders on social behavior…
“Social media is a deeply personal ecosystem that I lovingly refer to as the EGOsystem. As such, there is a “me” in social media for a reason. It is quite literally a world in which we are at the center of our online experiences, a place where everything and everyone revolves around us.” Make sure you read this post:

Social Media – Local Businesses Can Learn From Coca-Cola
Coke has recently launched a new social media marketing campaign that any business owner can learn from. Their new social strategy is based around 4 key principles and is aimed at increasing ‘mentions’ of the brand online.
Here are their 4 key social media principles:
- Reviewing 2. Responding 3. Recording 4. Redirecting

Social Media Strategies
So lets break each step down starting with reviewing, to respond to opinion online Coke has a team of subject experts who work with a team of bloggers and social media power users who deal with all the questions and comments form internet users.
Then step two they respond to as many queries as possible communicating via social networks to answer any questions or sort out any problems.
They then take those objections, questions or problems and create videos or blog posts with all the relevant information. Remember people do not want to be pitched to here, they only want information that is relevant to their daily life.
Last but not least, they then redirect the user from the video sharing site or social network into MyCokeRewards which is where they want the user to end up. By doing this many people naturally link into this page or spread the video to all their fans and friends which creates great link love into their desired location. This link love then improves the search engine rankings of this site and also improves the performance of the entire campaign.
“When you think about what your homepage is … it’s not necessarily just your brand page. It’s Google.com. It’s Digg. It’s Twitter. It’s YouTube. It’s Facebook,” stated Natalie Johnson, digital communications manager for Coca-Cola. “It’s all of these other sites, because that’s where people are going to obtain their information.”
So to sum it all up make sure you are monitoring what is being said about your company or brand online then respond through blog posts or videos which will then redirect the user to your desired location. BUT remember the goal of your content should be problem solving not sales orientated.
If you deliver good quality content this can help you increase your brand awareness and improve search engine rankings so try your best to over-deliver with every piece of content and just be social.

Social Media Success Starts at the Top

Social Media
Most companies who are playing around with social media to boost their business need to understand that in order to be successful there needs to be a shift in mindset which starts at the top. It is even more important if you are just a local business because often you are the voice and personality of your business and a lot of people make the mistake of just leaving the social marketing to one of their employees.
In order to make social media work for you it needs to come from the top and become part of the leadership and vision of the company. You need to strive for a culture of transparency and openness that is perfectly aligned with the message you are trying to deliver…

5 Steps to Social Media Success
Social media is certainly one of the most overlooked areas when it comes to small local businesses and the decisions on where to focus time and resources. The first thing any business owner needs to do to is change their mindset or break away from the traditional forms of marketing such as yellow pages, databases and newspaper advertising.
These methods are outdated and no longer work which if you really had to compare apples v apples you will see that social media marketing is now the best way to grow and engage your list of prospects.
But to be a success in social media marketing you will need to follow these 5 steps:
1. Define your Message
First thing you need to do is make sure your message is clear, concise and focused. Then you will need to create a hook to keep your audience interested and give them a reason to care and explain how you can help them. After that test your message to make sure it’s clear because a confused mind says NO.
2. Spread Your Message
Once you have got your message nailed down and working a treat make sure you distribute it far and wide using multiple sites, ask your friends to spread the word and discover who the key players are in your market place and ask for their help.
3. Appeal to EGO
Human beings love it when we receive good feedback and compliments so when you are approaching someone who you are looking to partner with to get your message out there it will not hurt to turn UP the charm. Lay it on thick people are most engrossed in their own self-interest, so play into that. Use “you” and “your.” Make it about them.
4. Use Keywords
We are also naturally drawn to keywords that we are interested in so don’t just focus on catchy headlines but incorporate keywords into your posts. Plus since Google introduced ‘Universal Search’ if your posts are keyword rich they could end on the front page of Google’s search results.
5. Stick to 1 Point
Make sure you are consistent, clear and focused on what you are trying to achieve in the first place 1 message 1 goal!!!

Twitter Eye TV Partnerships in 2010
According to reports Robin Sloan the former media strategist of Current TV will now be working for Twitter. His main role will be to handle all media partnerships with a range of organisations from popular web channels to huge TV networks. Twitter want to incorporate live feeds next to the live shows.
By doing this they will be able to tap into the profitable advertising revenue generated through TV. In many ways it is a perfect synergy because the TV networks will get realtime feedback and the advertisers will get highly focused and targeted placements.
Another factor which will help companies take the plunge into social media is that every campaign can be tracked, optimised and improved. Twitter has already started to feature in Google’s Local search when the user is signed into their Gmail account.
If Twitter can pull this off it will become the centre of all marketing activities online and on TV.
